Yore Globemaker, Rudy!

I, Rudy Speerschneider, come from the Earth and traveled a long way to get here.

Riding a top a twirling celestial sphere twisting through the Universe, I roam, explore and am inspired by all the wonders of this planet.

My direction in life has mostly been west.

My ancestors settled in as humans in and around European Shelf, making Spain and Germany their long time home, and eventually making the great leap across the Atlantic Ocean in the early 1900’s and onto the American continent, welcomed by the Statue of Liberty, and edging westward and snuggling into a new little city they were calling Detroit, Michigan. I grew up in a small suburb west of that city.

From there, I went South, for warmth and Art School. I graduated from Ringling College of Art & Design with an Honors BFA in 1996, then headed back up North for a different warmth in the romantic glow of being an artist in New York City. I was a Freelance Illustrator and Abstract Landscape Painter. I was a curator at a small Gallery in SOHO called HEREArt. I was published in several periodicals and exhibited at a few show until I was beckoned by a warming call to go further West and and landed in cozy and quite city called Portland, Oregon.

In Portland, I aquired all my experience and skills leading to the discovery of my practice as a globemaker.

It goes like this:

Pizza Maker

Hiking and Camping Road trips

Being in an arts group called The M.O.S.T. and discovering Mostlandia and granting over 200 citizenships.

Member of the Amatuer Cartographers Club and primary map maker.

Ice Cream maker and flavor inventor at Junior Ambassadors Ice Cream Company and Salt & Straw

Cooked at various restaurants

Built my own tiny home.

Designed and invented my own Compost Toilet system.

Built small bathhouses. Fell in love with working with wood.

Worked at a food rescue service

Had a child named celeste.

From a top Scotland Island, north of Sydney, Australia, the Globemaker Rudy Speerschneider can see the whole world through the paints and colors in his studio, “The Globery”.

The Globe

Rudy Speerschneider was born in the US and recently moved to Scotland Island, Australia from Portland, Oregon, with his family.

He brought over his globe making tools and studio called, "Yore Globes". He produces hand painted, personalized world globes illustrating anyone's particular travels, ancestry or places of significance. His globes are mapped out by freehand, in collaboration, on solid wood, using acrylic paint.

He’s also been creating a series of “portraits” of the world, in the form of a globe, inspired by the natural beauty of Earth as seen through the satellite imagery from space, or on old maps and globes, or in all the glorious landscapes he’s encountered around the world.

Rudy received his BFA from Ringling College of Art in Sarasota, Florida in 1996 and has had his art published in various periodicals and exhibited in a few galleries and festivals in some parts of the world.

MANIFESTO:

If you asked what navigational purpose my globes serve in today’s world, I'd say they guide us closer to Earth. Back to our essential nature, our humanistic truth.

I call it Globing. It’s a lifestyle. The merging or manifestation of the phrase “Think Globably, Act Locally”, into a social practice or conceptual piece, of sort. “Globe Locally”.

It is the all-encompassing sacred object, giving us our existence and beauty in miraculous proportions!

The unmistakable shapes formed by the lines where land meets water is the iconic & Universal meaning of “Life”~ Earth’s The iconic, bold and rare life in the universe ~ The Universal characteristics of ~ Like the face of our mother, the face of love.. It makes us feel safe and at home.

I want to bring the globe out of the static background of our lives and into the active forefront of respect and honor, to bring resonance to the foreground…to interact with our daily lives sustainably.

To connect ourselves with the reality of Earth as a living breathing 3-dimensional form supporting life is why  I makes globes…Hoping they will provide a map on how to navigate a more resonant and sustainable relationship with the planet. Starting by learning to hold it.

Each globe is unique, painted how the branches of a tree or light from a star form into our perception and composition.

like the natural formations of a tree or star.

By simply holding or looking to a hand painted, time made, well cared for wooden globe, he hopes we will be able to find a safe port for our creativity and preciousness to the interconnectedness so that we can share with the world how to care for it.

I bring my expertise and commitment in converting any bit of information or ideas into thoughtful, expansive and creative ways of seeing the world!

My experience in the world of the creative art collaboration extends with commercial illustrations, interpreting the written word into visual representation. Usually having to create one image to convey or tell the story of 500-1000 words. That’s how I see a globe..A spot illustration of your story, written word.

I’ve also cooked for a living, which is the ultimate nourishment of the creative process. Adding flavors and inventing recipes as art pieces representing what we like to eat… I learned all I know about globemaking from my map making days in psychogeographic place not place, impossible to map, Mostlandia. There I learned that a map should can be more than a set in stone, representation of reality, but it is an object or artifice that captures our essence in each moment, and how we can see the world differently evertime and it’s ok, as long as you know you can map it out.

I’ve also have and my many years in the various service industries where I’ve been dedicated to the art of succinct storytelling“Yore Globes” is a ready to go on a globemaking adventure with you!

I make speciality globes, especially for you. I use solid, sustainably farmed Paulownia wood turned into a sphere ranging from 4 - 10 inches (10 - 25 cm) in diameter. I then hand illustrate and paint the information you provide for “Yore Globe”. Pricing varies by the content and size of the globe, ranging from $200 - $2,500 AUD ($150 - $2,000 USD). Each globe takes about 4-8 weeks to complete and ships to anywhere to the US and Australia. A part of the proceeds will go to organizations working to protect our planet and its resources.

The owner and official globemaker of Yore Globes, Rudy Speerschneider, graduated with a BFA, with Honors, from Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, Florida. He has worked as a fine artist, illustrator, designer, chef, builder, woodworker, ice cream maker and inventor. He has been experimenting with woodturning and painting on globes since 2018. Yore Globes was launched on Earth Day, April 22, 2021.
